Re reading, never finished the trilogy and forgotten too much.

book 1,2 ✅
So far, average formulaic YA zombie apocalypse story, with all the standard tropes of teen romance, world-building with a totally implausible and stupid dystopia, and derivative of the Walking Dead, with over-the-top cruel cardboard villains. Still entertaining enough to continue with Book 3, but if there are not enough reveals to the underlying mystery to intrigue me, it will likely be the last.

Re-reading before starting the sequel.

Feeling uncomfortable, spooked, creeped out by the villains so far.

putting it aside for the moment, becoming confusing with the complicated fantasy science explication around the "stars" and "gates" and too many characters ...and taking too long to get to a point.
Am re-reading Last Watch in advance of the 2nd book release The Exiled Fleet which I just received.

DNF . Not what I expected, which was more speculative sci-fi exploration of the premise.

Finished Book 2.
Still enjoying the story, despite not connecting with either of the main pair of characters. Pacing, the action scenes tend to be drawn out and tedious, but are easily skimmed over, standard writing style for loooong epic high fantasy but the intriguing world-building and magical system, trumps any flaws in characters or pacing. Still 3 stars, and into seeing how it pans out in book 3.

Finished Book 1. Worldbuilding incredible, and fascinating magic system.
While the action scenes are a little long-winded at times, skimming through them doesn't detract from the steady pacing of a real page-turner.

Just random thoughts....'She doth protest too much, methinks'
Still too many grieving widows for my taste, I get them mixed up as they sound the same with only an occasional stand-out.

Too many women in panicky grief. Gets a little repetitive. All sound the same. One black woman in MI5, with "no shits left to give" was nice.
Some moments of poor writing, eg the SF riots...shoot, shooter, shooting..never did find out who shot who.
Quibbles...so far most flaws can be forgiven for being a debut novel.

Put on hold for maybe later.

20% in, great read, the writing styles of the 3 authors mesh well.

Ok. I understand why some didnt like this book as much as the others. The repetitive action, capture-escape-planning-capture-escape. Rinse. Repeat. It did get a tiresome in places, and was a hard long slog to get to the inevitable happy-ever-afters.
But still I give it 3 stars :-)

Fun enjoyable adventure, but very complicated, with a "cast of thousands" in multiple parallel storylines. I keep forgetting who is doing what and find myself having to go back and re-read sections to refresh my memory.

Ok. If the series continues, Id be ready for another installment.

Could not finish. Can accept the bracelet thing as a metaphor, but it wasnt presented that way. Secondly, the characters were so one-dimensional, cardboard cutouts and cliches.

I didnt "get it". Abandoned half-way.

So far, so good! More military sci-fi detail than I like, but the characters are great.
