on part II.
its a shame the criticism of Congo colonialism derives entirely from how inefficient and greedy the invaders are in terms of work effort and wanting to make a fortune, and not much to do with how terrible it is to invade another country and enslave their people in general as a concept.

like "oh man, they treat the slaves poorly so they can't do work well!" and not "oh man they enslave and beat them!"

Marlow's description and opinions of the absurd happenings and "farcical" nature of work and hollow, meaningless tasks carried out by the Company is genuinely hilarious. i am feeling the same thing at this very moment at my desk at work.
Useless, inefficient, and pointless, yet somehow everyone dreams of earning more money through their work and being richer than they deserve to be.

bro fell off a horse call that broke back mountain

got whiplash when the narrator said the n word with no hesitation lol.

oohh i already know im gonna take a long time to comprehend the 1800s writing style. this better be worth it please.

so everyone loved her because she was SOOOOOOOOOO beautiful, and the guys all wanted to smash because she was "SOOOO beautiful" and so "pure" because she is a virgin. and her best friend was jealous of her because she was "SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL" and the hottest demon of the realm wanted her cause she has nice mostly HUMAN body not a filthy animal chimaera body and she's virgin pure and SOOOO BEAUTIFUL

girl whatever,,,...

i've hit the point now where i'm skimming and i don't care. "she was wind and door and home" i'm so sick of nouns being used as adjectives
"they were fire and brimstone and together they were forbidden and despaired and love" yaaaaawn whatever insta-love propaganda your stupid words won't make me root for you. you only are attracted to him because he's shirtless and stoic and ripped.

the cover is butt fugly and it honestly looks like trash but i really need something light and trashy right now

reading this book feels like eating sandpaper. the writing is so dry i'm genuinely thirsty. i won't give up so close to the end, but may the Lord have mercy on my tortured soul and give me strength to carry on to the finish.

"Later, though, I heard he was dating a man, so maybe I was too quick to take the credit."

okay thats actually so fukcing perfect i cant lie

oh my gooooood bruh FUCK THIS DAMN MONKEY. WHO GIVES A SHIT. THE DAMN THING DISEMBOWELED A KITTEN AND HAD ANIMALISTIC RAGES RANDOMLY. ITS A CHIMPANZEE. THEY DO THAT. THEY ARE ANIMALS. IT'S IN THEIR NATURE. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO SAFELY INTEGRATE WITH HUMANS AND SOCIETY. IT WASN'T YOUR SISTER. IT WAS AN ANIMAL. A PET. MY GODDD.

AND I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ANIMAL TESTING EITHER. EITHER DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR SHUT UP

it's actually insane how bored i am.

also harlow is such a bop. who sleeps with ur friends criminal brother you met less than an hour ago? who throws away their life and their boyfriend (who you've cheated on multiple times) to become a criminal to chase after some guy???? do you have no self-respect??? AND you steal the vintage puppet that doesn't belong to you????

ok this one is actuaLLY really good ive devoured half the book in one sitting. Galo and Aren have more chemistry than their respective partners do with them. prolly cus we're actually seeing them DEVELOP their bond and spend time with each other lol

erm bit late in the game to finally be world building tbh. just now we're being told of the cities and Lera and their position on a map lol

b-b-b-b-boooooring. why not have made the book in the perspective of Lowell who has actually been DOING SOMETHING all these years? at least we'd get some action and not some miserable hoe who has done fuck all.

huh. reaaaaal convenient.

these angels are dog shit. you'd think they would be professionals by now but they're not even trying to be discrete its embarrassing...

"I should maybe say here that I’d taken a couple of pills Harlow gave me. It’s a lucky thing I’d never faced peer pressure before; I turned out to suck at it."

HUEHUE TYPICAL COMING OF AGE COLLEGE STORY DOING RANDOM DRUGS HUEHUE SOOO RELATABLE HUEHUE (¬`_´¬)

"Reg leaned in to say that there was nothing an audience liked better than a man in a dress. Harlow brushed him away as the minor annoyance he was."

Reg is absolutely correct.

these kingdoms feel reeeeeeally close to each other. the characters keep running into each other when one was meant to be in Lera, one's in Olso, one is in the southern province.... very strange.

lowkey interested in razgut. hes got tortured uke potential

i still am failing to see the point of this novel. random vignettes really with no clear timeline. i suppose it will all come together by the end or something. but i'm struggling to care really.

alright blud, get to the point.

plots finally moving. feel bad for that deformed angel guy. akiva, what a dick you are. insta-love at first sight incoming hooray.

if this shit doesn't knock my socks off i'm not reading the rest of the series even though i have them.
