I don't think I'm going to be on much anymore. My depression is now at its worst and I no longer get joy from reading books. Hopefully one day I will feel better, but for now I don't think that will happen.

So far there's a good and intriguing mystery that both Sherlock and Watson have to solve, but I am not the biggest fan of how Abigail Moone is being written here. She's supposed to be a lot like Sherlock Holmes but she's very flat as a character and I don't really appreciate the lack of any kind of development.

I get that she's not a major character... but still. I am annoyed by her.

It's a good book so far, though I am getting strange obsessive vibes with Lisa when it comes to a main male character. Also, highly doubt that somebody with a broken leg is going to be able to walk around as much as one of the characters is, but maybe you can walk around on a broken leg? I don't know, I've never broken one of mine before...

If I had known that this is a companion novel/sequel to another one of the author's works, I would have picked that one up. Luckily this one reads as a standalone because if it didn't, I would be seriously annoyed with the author and publisher who didn't list it as part of a series.

So far, I am enjoying the story but I wish that there was more urgency, more fighting, vs. focusing on romance. Like Lisa very much.

Okay, so now that I've made sure that I am not dealing with somebody who is as much of a disgrace as Heather Morris is (allegedly, of course... *eyeroll*), I am happy to pick up this book. To my knowledge this author hasn't attacked any Holocaust survivors or memorials dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust- which is perfect.

Yes, I am still incredibly salty. And no, I am never apologising for it.

So, Siciliano seems to be one of THOSE fic writers who absolutely hates one of the canon characters to the point that they create an OC that completely replaces the hated canon character- and exists only to exudes said author's intense hatred for said canon.

I mean... what is the point of writing Sherlock Holmes retellings when you hate one of the most important characters??? FOR NO REASON, TOO!

First let me say that I love the idea of this book and I love that it is inspired by The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. However, it doesn't have Watson and instead has Dr Henry Vernier as Sherlock's aide. Interesting- but I feel like I need to read the other books written by Siciliano to understand what happened to Watson.

It's fine though. Despite the slight confusion, the writing is enjoyable. About to start Chap 2

Not sure what to make of this book but I like George Orwell's writing... Not enough to get the boxset of books that I see at my local Coles, but enough to at least respect him as a writer.

Honestly though, I have no idea what I have read in these thirty seven pages. No idea at all.

Wow, alright... so I am enjoying the unreliable narrator fact of this, but I also love the way that this book gets into how women's mental health and emotions are often glossed over.

This book is interesting since I feel that Hall is playing with the unreliable narrator trope? Allie is the only one experiencing this haunting so far and it's starting to leave it's impact on her mental health- and since it's from her perspective and doesn't include the perspectives of the other characters, I feel the author is going down a similar road as Henry James' 'The Turn of the Screw'.

First book I've read by Lisa Hall and I've got to say I like her writing. I am now on chapter two and I find that I am being drawn once more into the book.

Love how we see the mental stress that a newborn puts on a mother and wonder if this plays a factor in the horror/thriller elements of the book?

So, fun fact: This book is so small that I actually lost it in my bookshelf. It's fine though, I found it after I tore the shelf I keep all of these Arcturus editions on apart.

Anyway, onto the book! Maybe I can finish this one in one sitting?? Maybe...?

My second Wilkie Collins this year and I am in absolute love. Not really sure what to say about this one. It's a book I only found out about because it was on my Amazon recommended, but I am super happy I found it. It's really good so far.

My only regret is that the book is a novella. It needs to be longer.

Alright, so I love the end papers of my edition. Whoever designed the book did a brilliant job in making sure we don't forget the soldiers that participated in this battle. The front end papers have the Canadian soldiers and the back end papers have the Generals and other officers who led them to battle on the back. Loved that they included that in these old editions.

Taking things a little slow since I find that I'm not really in the mood for Sherlock at the moment, but it's a good book with a very intriguing plot- so hopefully, I can sit down and give this one the attention and love it rightfully deserves.

Heard that this was considered one of Dumas' lesser works, but I don't really see why that is. Like Buss has noted in the introduction, The Women's War starts of very slow but it is well worth it. You can definitely see Dumas' love for the 17th century in this novel, but it's definitely not the d'Artagnan romances.

Still the Baron de Canolles is a very endearing character, in my opinion.
