even when you do good deeds for other people, you still have to like treat them with respect. A really good analogy for this is when you get married, you take each other for granted because you think, caring for each other in a relationship is a justified guaranteed, when it actually takes work and every day constantly having to do the work

lack of accountability when they make mistakes. theres also a culture of if u give gifts, it has to be up to certain monetary standards. small gestures are a thing of the past.

people in the western world are more comfortable saying no, they don't have the bandwidth to do something. Vietnamese people will often times say yes to things out of politeness, but whether or not they will do it or enjoy it or not is a whole different story.

there's this really interesting discussion on how Vietnamese people are very willing to point out and discuss flaws, but not motives. So for instance, it is very common to point out, bodily imperfections or bad habits, but actively expressing that you are money driven or ambitious in your careers is a big no-no. interesting. Want her to dive in more on this.

this also shows up in advocating for yourself. In western world, it's common for people to say vote for me because I have the capabilities. But when you are given praise in Vietnam, it's more common place to say you don't deserve it or you should give it to somebody who's in need of it more.
