James entered the story and it’s MUCH better quite suddenly

IT WOULD BE SO GOOD IF IT WASN’T SO RUSHED!!!! PACAT I KNOW YOU’RE A GOOD AUTHOR WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS

almost halfway through and I’m frustrated because how did someone who is so good at characterization and world building produce such a shoddy introduction. Everything moved too quickly and felt so fake and orchestrated. The worst is Violet, who changed her whole value system over the course of 40 pages. ugh.
