One of the most important lessons I learned in grad school is that, when writing, the simplest word is usually best. This book, on the other hand, is inundated with intense, obscure vocabulary. Our narrator is a phd, so I don’t mind some high-level vocabulary choices, but I’m annoyed enough that I might not continue unless the book really hooks me in the next 50 pages.
