“the single most important lesson I learned over the course of many years, and many, many parties, is this humbling but inescapable fact: that no matter what you serve, no matter how beautifully presented, strikingly garnished, exotic in flavor, or expensive, what everybody wants, what they will be all over like a swarm, every time, is commercially made freezer-case-sourced pigs in fucking blankets.”

Has this been your experience? Maybe I should try offering them as an experiment. I don't like pigs in a blanket, and I've never had people prefer freezer food over homemade food that I've had. But maybe I'm not paying attention.

Not necessarily with pigs in a blanket, but I do think that overall vibe is true. I’ll make something impressive and delicious, but people are still happier with simple chocolate chip cookies or even a boxed brownie mix. Most food really is fine, and most people can’t tell or don’t care about the differences between really good food and really really good food.
