My heart shatters every time Siavash longs for home.

Imagine someone not giving you something that could've saved your son's life out of pure pettiness, and you think to yourself: I can persuade him to put off the war, he'll listen to me. Yeah sure buddy.

The way he builds these complex characters using few words at a time.

It's absurd how often I forget how funny and engaging these stories are. And the female characters are so well written you can hardly find such complex depictions of women even in modern litrature.
