Ryker Faulkner one of the family featured in all the books is self made and rich. He is having some issues with the mob as they are trying to take over his shipping port, one of his many ventures. He actually has his hands in many enterprises. He is almost killed when a bomb goes off in the middle of the night at the port. He is saved by an off duty nurse Kenzie Carys on her way home from her shift.
