“I don’t believe in coincidences, Angel.” He licks his lips, and I can see the desire to kiss me in his gaze. “Where did you go today, Nes? Please.”
“It means that much to you?”
“Something far bigger than your secrets is happening right now, Angel.” He leans down, resting his forehead against mine as he inhales slowly. He can breathe me in like this only when he touches me.

This took me longer than, I’d like to admit, to finish. I do plan on reading book 2 but for now imma hold off while waiting for ironside. I liked this book 4 stars because it drags when the POV’s switch.

“My darling brother, did you throw my dearest Vanessa into a tornado?” Artemis doesn’t just speak the question with absolute calm, but she purrs the words with a promise that exudes death as she stalks Apollo.
Artemis terrifies me. She’s like that one chick we all know and warn our best friends away from, but they go for it anyway because there is something attractive about crazy.

My smile turns wide and disbelieving, and I scramble naked off the bed, looking through my clothing for my phone.
“Not that I’m complaining about the view, but what are you doing?” I look over at him to note the sheet slowly lifting with his arousal.
Pointing a finger at him, I say, “No. Down, boy. I have a surprise.”

I shake my head as I glare at the door. Last thing I want is for my moms to think I’m as insane as my biological mother.
“Fine. I heard what they said.”
“Get out of my head,” I hiss at him. I rummage through the bag and grab panties from home and a black bra. Mama must have packed my bag, because she threw in my favorite black romper.

And more, so much more. I can feel him deep inside me. Just a teasing dose of his essence now lives inside my soul, but I can sense the power of that singular taste and what I can do with it.
Find him. Call him to me.
Maybe it’s best if I just focus on Greyson and the way his pants hug the tight curves of his butt.

Daisy saunters out of the diner, wearing ripped short shorts and a crop top that has seen better days. Her eyes are tired yet alert, just as they always are. Greyson idles at the curb, and the window squeals as he lowers it.
“Milkshake.” She passes the white foam cup through the window, and I salivate. “Strawberry.”
“You know me so well.” I suck on the deliciously flavored beverage and moan in pleasure.

“No, you are a reptile.”
“Take it back.” My eyes click, and he turns opaque. “Dammit!” I yell, the film blinking back to normal a moment before the curtain flips open and Greyson walks in with another man. I barely look at him, though, because he has my little monster.
“I brought you a present,” he teases as he sits on the edge of my bed, holding Elliot in his arms.

So close. Closer than I’ve gotten in decades to the one being that can restore everything to the way it once was.
I saw the shadow of her form, the outline she cast in the sand. I passed her car where her scent lingered in the air like a tantalizing perfume. My body aches from just that teasing promise of her.

“What do you know about him?” Greyson runs down the winding tunnel where torches flicker to life as we pass before dying slowly behind us.
“Archery.” I grunt, touching the side of my face where blood dries. My feet skid to a stop. “Greyson, if he is anything like Artemis, his arrow wouldn’t miss. He really wasn’t trying to kill me.” Which means Pim told the truth.

average human It’s something so many take for granted, and yet with each inhale, he cherishes me. “I’ll never tire of breathing you in.”
“Tell me something first.” I settle against him, weighing my options. “Why is Apollo so dangerous?”
Pim pulls away, his eyes going to the wall that should show the outside, and yet the only thing there is red stone. “Don’t you get it, Nes? What can you do?”
My eyes flicker between his as his words sink deep down inside me. Apollo is a seer god. “Oh no.”
“He is not safe for you.” There’s more there he doesn’t say, including the implications as to why Apollo just chased us across the desert.
“I’m going to need you to explain that, but not right now.” Restraint I didn’t know I was capable of keeps me from looking at Greyson. I don’t want him to know what I can do yet. “I don’t know where I went, Pim.”
Finally, he pulls back, his hand slipping into mine once more as he tugs me down the tunnel. “Why don’t you explain it to me?”
“I landed inside a volcano.” I recall the heat that seared my lungs, my throat, and the lava that burbled up to greet me.
Pim misses a step, only to pause with wide eyes as his mouth opens and closes again and again. “I have to go.”
“You’re running away now?” Greyson flails his arms at the entrance. “While a crazy god is chasing us and trying to kill Vanessa? Are you out of your mind?”
“I have to go.” Pim drops my hand, and I gather it back up, squeezing his fingers with a punishing grip. “Apollo never misses, even if you moved your head. He doesn’t want you dead.”
“Why, Pim?” I grind out.
“He can’t get in here. I swear he can’t.”
“What aren’t you telling us?” My other hand snaps out, gripping his throat as I squeeze. Something inside me rears up, and I know I should fear it, but I don’t. A deeply buried strength has me slamming a man twice my size into a nearby wall.
“Holy shit!” Greyson grips my hands. “Nes.”
“No,” I growl at him, though I don’t look at Greyson. My eyes stay locked on Pim. “No more secrets.”
“Like the one you won’t tell Greyson?” he challenges, calling me out, and all it does is fuel my anger. He’s doing this so I’ll let him go, so he can run off and do whatever it is ghosts do.
“Don’t do this to me, Pim.”
“Let me go right now. I know what’s going on, but you cannot keep me here if I’m to help.”
“Lie.”
Pim, the fucking weasel, looks at Greyson. “She can see the future.” To me, he says, “And so much more.”
I let go of him, watching as he falls to the ground, his gaze unapologetic. I want to curse at him, scream, but I can’t.
“These aren’t his gods,” Pim says before disappearing, leaving me here alone with Greyson.
My eyes close as the loud neighs of horses sound right outside the wall. Apollo is right there, and it takes everything in me to settle my thoughts and not march outside just to see what the hell he wants. The only thing holding me back is Greyson, who seethes behind me.
“That’s why you wanted to go to Sedona. Not to be with me, but to figure out who I am.” I close my eyes against the hurt in his voice. That’s twice today I’ve unintentionally hurt him.
But I knew better, didn’t I? I knew I should have said something, yet I chose not to.
Now I have to own up to my mistakes. “Greyson.”
“Don’t you fucking dare.” He backs away, stomping down the tunnel. “Gods, Vanessa, those are gods! And I’m stuck in here with you.” That should hurt me, but it doesn’t. Deep down, I know I never meant to hurt him and that has to count for something, I just need him to see that.
“Don’t freak out.”
“And you.” He spins on a heel, pointing a finger at me as crimson colors his features, his muscles taut with anger. “You lied to me.”
“I never lied.”
“Omitting the truth is still lying, Vanessa. You planned to figure out my past, didn’t you?” He pauses, but I’m not sure he’s actually looking for an answer, and I can’t give him one. “I told you I didn’t want to know what my past was, and you couldn’t let it go!”
I have nothing to say for myself, so I stand there. What’s worse is I don’t regret what I did, and I’d probably do it again.
“What are you, Vanessa?”
“I told you I don’t know.” That, at least, I can answer.
“That isn’t good enough for me anymore, Vanessa. What are you?” He prowls toward me.
For the first time, worry slithers under my skin. Greyson is angry, pissed, and it’s all directed at me. “Greyson,” I murmur, but he’s already shaking his head, dismissing my explanation.
“No, Vanessa.” He backs me into a wall, his eyes hard with wrinkles lining the edges.
“You’ve had a hard life.” The words slip from my lips before I can stop them, and now that I’ve said them, I won’t take them back.
