69% done and ive got about 25 min left if i keep skimming at this rate. book club meeting is tomorrow. the section on the covid vaccine was definitely interesting - i have wondered how they were able to get it out so quickly. the section on ai and energy stresses me out :/

54% done and book club is this wednesday. there’s some interesting stats about international students not being able to stay in the country after studying undergrad here and the affect that has on innovation, which has slowed tremendously in the recent decades. i’m still skimming in order to hopefully finish by our next meeting.

23% done and ive only read 10 pages since my last update. this book is moving quite slow and i often feel like the same thing is said at a surface-level understanding multiple times. there are also numerous times where there are footnotes for random stats but not for others that im curious about. one stat said 8million people die from air pollution each year with no source or data to back it up. hmm.. confuse me??

book club meeting for this one is aug 22 and i’m starting to fear i won’t be finished in time! i can only get through about 4 pages at a time before i have to take a break on this book. i dislike the huge chunks of text directly quotes from other works. i’ve just finished ch1 and im 15% done with the whole thing. gonna keep chuggin along tho

definitely a slower read than Everything is TB, but i like it more than our first book club book. i really enjoyed this quote supporting the importance of living in cities:

“Those much-mocked Bay Area parties where young AI engineers gather in group houses to ingest psychedelics and contemplate the singularity matter.”
