To my dismay mermaids are popular romance topes. I hope it stays YA-ey its alright so far. this girl just seems super boring and her life sounds so depressing.

She's just poor and lives in squalor like some white trash, it would be a bit more interesting if she was a proper criminal tho. At least it would make her seem smart instead she just has a bird to steal stuff for her.
