The introduction of this version is especially interesting, dissecting the cultural and historical aspects of Prague and Bohemia in the late 1800s. The stories may be hard to appreciate or follow as fully without referring to Angela E's helpful information. Apparently there was lots of prejudice and division between the working class Czech people and the more elite, German classes; making up the areas of Prague then.
