I don't like how the abbot is made a figure of fun. This last eighty pages have been less well structured than the first - the metaphors are a bit more clunky and the characters are just a bit on the mean side even as they are extolling each other's kindness. Really cannot like Hunter so this relationship with Lucy is annoying. Why do male authors always find unforgiveable behaviour ok if the character is a man?

Absolutely luscious writing. Living inside Francis's brain is a real treat. This is writing for philosophers though. I don't know how anyone without that background would enjoy St Aubyn's blue lego whale thought bubble. It must seem completely out there. And Shrodinger's cat!
