Every minute without Alex made him more anxious. It was like at some point, while Devin was obsessing over the moon, she had become his sun. Each step she took away from him pushed Devin further into darkness, into the cold.

"Fuck the moon," Devin said, kissing her cheek, her neck, the hollow of her throat.
"I'd like to spend the rest of my life howling at your door."

She watched him work himself over with this new knowledge: that Devin Ashwood had done this before, gotten off fantasizing about her. The role reversal was wild. A reckless, woozy happiness spiked in her blood.

"You're embarrassed," he panted, not a question, and oh right, he could smell her feelings. "Don't be." He looked unabashedly at the place between her legs as he got himself off. "Alex, I've come from the scent of you lingering on my shirt."

"So go ahead," he said, mouth against her skin. "Put me on my knees and make me edge myself for hours. Suck my dick until I'm begging. Maybe, when you get really needy, you'll decide to ride me. But just so we're on the same page, when you come the second that pretty cunt starts to flutter—I'm gonna fucking know."

"You're real tough, aren't you, baby? So goddamn hard to please." Devin traced the shell of her ear with his lips. "But my face does it for you, my voice."
He placed a featherlight kiss on her nape. "You know I'd fuck you until you cried if you let me."
Alex closed her eyes, leaned into it.

Every time she made a sound for him-a gasp, a sigh, a mortifying little whimper
—he'd say, "That's it, baby. You're doing so good."

"You wanna hear that it's all I can do right now not to flip you over in the dirt and ride you until your knees buckle?" Devin closed his eyes like the words cost him. "That I've never wanted anything in my entire goddamn life more than I wanna shove aside those goofy little shorts you've got on and eat you out until you're writhing, whimpering, because the only word you can remember is my name?"

"You smell..." he began, then mumbled, "like you were made for me."
