He breathes in slowly. Lavender. Tea tree oil. Cinnamon. And the new addition of charcoal.
It’s Travis.
It’s home.
It’s his happily ever after.
“We won,” Carter whispers to himself, a smile breaking loose on his lips.
He kisses the caged bird and settles back to finally fall asleep.
We won.

~ So fucking adorable

"Bad guys lose in the end," Casey whispers. The words are an echo from the cage when Carter had first met him and Elliot. Elliot wouldn't stop crying, but Casey had soothed him. "They always fucking lose in the end. You just have to wait long enough."
"We win," Carter adds as he takes Casey's hand in his. Casey squeezes his hand tight, like he's terrified of letting go. "We fucking win."

"We're all victims," Carter mumbles, getting the point.
"No, Carter." Dr. Singh sits forward and points a finger at him, his expression serious. "You're all survivors. The question is, are you ready to face that?"

~ I won't do teh rant, there's nothign wrong with being a victim.

Your brain doesn't want to be a victim. And it's understandable. Who wants to be a victim, right?"
"I'm not in denial. I'm not trying to avoid being the victim. I just - I feel guilty I didn't experience the same level of trauma as the others. I mean, Casey was gangraped all the time. Matt doesn't even speak."
Dr. Singh frowns. "Out of Casey and Matt, who had it worse do you
think?"
"I… don't know."

~ Uncomparable

“I can’t play with you if we can’t communicate, sweetheart.”
“But we’ve been communicating.”
“Twice now, you’ve safe worded out of a conversation that makes you uncomfortable. And I’ll never take that word away from you, not fucking ever, but if that’s how you’ll use it, we aren’t communicating enough.”

~ I love them so deeply, no one will ever understand me

"I'm done talking about this. I - red."
Travis makes a sound Carter hasn't heard him make since he was Nathan Roarke. It makes Carter feel very small. What Travis says next is even worse. "You want to safe word out of any conversation that makes you uncomfortable? Fine, Carter. But then we won't be playing anymore. I can't be your sir if we can't communicate. It’s not healthy.”

“You’re - you’re going too slow for that. It’s n-not the same.”
“Because I’m milking you, sweetheart.” Travis gives in then, flashing his boy a sadistic grin. “I’m not trying to give you an orgasm. Just trying to empty you out.”

~ Diabolical

Just as Travis's heart is about to break though, his boy plasters himself to Travis like a damn spider monkey and whispers into his ear, "I love you too, Travis Kenton.”

~ They're adorable af

“Trav?”
“Yeah?”
“We’re learning together, okay? Don’t be too hard on yourself.”
Something softens in Travis’s expression. Carter realizes after a moment what it is - relief. It’s a rare emotion for the man holding him. Sadly rare.
Carter smiles at the sight of it, though. Because he feels relieved too now.
Maybe this thing between them will work out after all.
