Just finished the story The Festival. I enjoyed this one much more than the previous story. The setting is gloomy and perfect for October reading. Appears to have been inspired by an actual town that Lovecraft discovered. Similar to Rats in the Walls, it also has the theme of family heritage dealing with the unknown horrors.

Finished reading The Hound - with only 8 pages, the story takes a long time to get going, and I felt was overly descriptive and had to re-read some lines multiple times to try and understand what the message was. The notes at the back do say that this was intentional by Lovecraft and almost a parody of himself. However, the story turned into a great one of grave robbing, unseen horrors and inevitable insanity.

First time picking this up in years! Just read the story 'The Outsider'. Herbert West Re-Animator would have been next, but I have read that before, so jumping ahead to the next story 'The Hound'.

Just read The Picture in the House. An enjoyable story. One of the better ones in the collection so far.

Just read 2 more stories. Celephaïs and Nyarlathotep. Both entertaining to read, although not the best Lovecraft I have read so far. The next story in the collection is The Picture in the House, but I am putting this collection down for now and going to read a different author. I will be picking this up again soon though.

I've enjoyed the first 3 stories so far in this collection. I preferred the first 2 then the 3rd. Which were Dagon, The Statement of Randolph Carter and The Late Arthur Jerymn and his Family.
