I continue to find this reread a lovely experience and I feel more kinship to Charlotte than ever before. (Being more a Jane Austen type myself in temperament.) She is asking some big questions about the nature of being a woman and women’s roles and work. It echoes what I’m reading in Edith Stein and Dorothy Sayers and the questions the suffragettes etc are asking decades later. Brilliant stuff. And the story!
