I've been listening to this over the last week or so while I do work in the garden. I can definitely understand why it's detested by some readers, because the main character is truly (and deliberately) detestable, but as an older fantasy story with just "OK" writing, and barely a handful of original ideas so far, it's definitely not the worst I've encountered in my not inconsiderable experience in the genre.

Oh wow! This was my introduction into fantasy, I read the whole series in my teens and thought it was incredible. I’d be really interested to reread it now to see how it stands up

I'm not sure I want to re-read his works - it might lose some of the magic that's been kept alive by my memories.
Donaldson... It's off to a rough start for me. It's certainly does a great job of creating a mysterious and immersive plot, but I'm finding the world-building very weak, and Covenant is such a nasty and miserable person, which makes a bit of sense considering his situation, but it's undoubtedly difficult to spend time with him and experience this world through his eyes.
There is room for my mind to change and the character to grow, but we'll see.
