For about 10 years I lived near the Goodnight Trail so I was glad to read about it as Poteet is going to make a drive to Colorado on it. (very dangerous due to no water). Reading about the Goodnight Trail helped me to recover from the horror of the Sand Creek massacre. I was so upset by that I thought about quitting this book.

I was flabbergasted that James Michener writes that the Mexicans from the Chihuahua area loved Denver as Denver is very cold and most Mexicans that I knew in San Antonio loved the heat. One of the Mexicans that walked from down in Chihuahua to north of Denver loved Denver. He worked hard for Potato Baumgerger growing sugar beets which are super hard to grow and when the job would end after the harvest he would go to

long I sand this song in church with two friends:

"Soft as the voice of an Angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle Persuasion,
Whispers her comforting words,
Wait til the Darkness is over,
Wait til the Tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is done.

I was so glad to find this song here which was sung in Centennial.

This is too horrifying to read and very embarrassing how vicious many Coloradans were. My husband says I am reading about Sand Creek but this is far worse than anything I ever heard before. It makes me sick! Col Skimmerhorn was a vicious monster beyond belief. I wish he had stayed out of CO. Most of the military who went there were insane. Mercy was a good name for the only one who had any compassion and

For about 50 years I thought that counting coup meant that the Indian killed his enemy but it does not mean that at all but it means the Indian couched his enemy. Merely touch not death at all!

Poor old Rufus the bison. He got caught in the flooding of the Platt in spring and so drowned. Onward to the tale of the little beaver.

The first bit about ancient history and dinosaurs bored me so much that I feel asleep. I hope this is over soon.
