I know Colleen is Nia’s primary love interest and the romance doesn’t pick up until the second half of the book, but when the author describes Colleen’s voice from Nia’s perspective, it has a foreshadowing.

I would classify this as Women’s Lit or LitFic more than romance.

I really like the character of Nia. She reminds me of myself, including my strengths and my flaws and I can relate to her immensely. I’m sure a lot of professional women can. It’s a nice snapshot into life after achieving your singular goal - reaching the pinnacle of your career. That life involves more work but may also involve an upending of your private life. Call it midlife crisis? 4 star loading.

So this book has lived up to all my expectations. I do have some criticisms though. We see both MCs working together for 2 years before the relationship changes. But we’re only given snippets of any attraction between them. This is partly because this is a character study of an attorney that rises to the pinnacle of her career and how this pinnacle changes her, including sexually. It’s not primarily a romance.

Also she’s been seeing Justine for 2 YEARS! 😳😱 That’s a long-ass affair.

“It was so much more than the touch of a woman, though. It was a meeting of the mind.”
Another point in the demisexual category. I find I like books about women that remind me of myself or express my idea of love. That’s what’s attractive about this book to me.
