Robert's Arthur is pretty much Merlin 2.0 so I can only conclude he's making them a trinity with Jesus himself because the concept of the three keeps repeating

Merlin has three guises in this: a serving-boy, a handsome gentleman, and an old white-haired man. Is that a guy version of the Triple Goddess?? He's Mother, Maiden, Crone in addition to Girboss, Gaslight, Gatekeep?? I have so many quesions...

I've known that Merlin orchestrated Arthur's birth via what now is legally rape of Igrene by Uther... but Robert's take also implies he did it to make Arthur's conception just like his own, isn't that something

Jesus was so powerful he invented baptism. Demons who used to just take all humans to hell started losing them to heaven, and they got upset bc they "didn't have power to lie with women" and create life (unlike God). But they really wanted a chosen one of their own, the one who'd decieve people on Earth, and did their best, so Merlin was born with the Devil's knowledge of the past and God's knowledge of the future :D

Stephanie Fachiol I had never considered the idea of Arthur and Merlin as part of a constructed, Trinity-like group... I always viewed Arthur as more of a Davidic or Solomonic figure. Your view is interesting; I wonder if the third part of the Trinity would be Galahad, but perhaps you have another candidate in mind?

bookslayer This book is either the first record of oral tradition that was popular at the time or the author's fanfiction; either way this is where arthurian myth married christianity, and the first one of the trinity is Jesus himself!

Stephanie Fachiol Alright, I’m sold

bookslayer Like, someone in the 1200s was kicking their feet in the air while finding parallels between Jesus, Merlin, and Arthur, and so in this text they go through similar experiences and story beats, as if they're stages of the same story, interconnected

Stephanie Fachiol Reading works by "people in the 12-1400s kicking their feet in the air while finding parallels between Jesus, Merlin, and Arthur" = ideal way to spend a Saturday
