I'm doing one big push and finishing up "The Bad Book." No sleep until this nightmare is over.

Gonna leave all thoughts in the comments cuz it doesn't have a character limit.

*Oh, we're calling Verity a psychopath. And we're armchair diagnosing her. She's not evil or a psychopath, she needs HELP. The fact that Lowen can't create an ounce of empathy for her is more concerning tbh.
*Again, we're supposed to be rooting for Lowen? She won't stop snooping. She continues to ogle J. She's not a good person. I hate how gross this whole book makes me feel.
*Hoover continues to overuse italics. I was taught to limit it to ~3 times TOTAL in a novel length work (unless there's telepathy or another language being spoken, for example). At this point, all of the italicized text has no oomph to it.
*After knowing J for 2 weeks, she has a "favorite look on him." Yeah right
*Nothing about this house is spooky, aside from Verity's presence. It's never described in unsettling language, we're just told it is through Lowen.
*I (verb)'s galore. Just gonna refer to it as "sinning" from now on.
*EW DONT WEAR HIS SHIRT YOU ABSOLUTE CREEP
*Even "psychopaths" don't deserve darkness and locked-in syndrome. Hoover is conflating evil bastard with psychopath. Most evil bastards are psychopaths, but not all psychopaths are evil bastards.
13
*So. Many. Italics.
*Why does he have a nickname for her, and why did he pick LOW?!
14
*Sinnin'.
*The snow globe analogy was fine until is was literally snowing outside in the following paragraph.
*So the attempted murder isn't a great look, but I still say post-partum depression over psychopathy.
15
*yep, Verity's traumatized. Who'd've thunk?
*For a woman who says that therapy was the best thing that ever happened to her, I can't buy that she doesn't believe Verity could've benefitted from it
*Another thing that bugs me is how Lowen seems to assume that a dark imagination means a dark writer. Tons of people write about dark and disturbing topics, but aren't bad or even broken people.
*Sin.
*J picked her because he liked her book. Shocking.
*Don't appreciate that Verity hates her Autistic child.
*Italics.
16
*Still using italics.
*Lowen refers to Verity as addicted to J, but can't connect that she should approach her actions like that of an addict. I think Hoover didn't mean for that.
*Lowen does not act like she's 32. 22, maybe.
*Weird dialogue
*oh they're just boning on the couch. lovely.
*So Verity isn't bed-bound. Nothing bad will come of this I'm sure.
*Because I spoiled myself accidently, I know that Verity can indeed move and think. I just can't think of a single reason she'd fake any of it. To test J's devotion to her? That's the only plausible explanation I can come up with.
