I noticed that every time the master of the house hunted, the hunting became more difficult. I wonder if that was mean to parallel Gawain's growing anxiety about the lady of the house and his forthcoming duty?

The fact this is one of two stories where a woman greatly desires Gawain, makes me wonder what medieval women's perception of Gawain was. I know lofty ladies falling for knights is a common trope, but Gawain is in such specific situations both here and in the story with Ragnelle it makes me wonder.

Also, apparently the pentangle on the shield is actually from this poem. I thought the movie with Dev Patel invented that. Cool!

This has both the Middle English text and the modern English translation for comparison. The original text is in alliterative verse and I like that the modern text has, mostly, kept that.
