For someone who literally just days ago wrote a ranting review about excessive footnotes, you’d think that this book would be my kryptonite. But I am actually enjoying it quite a lot so far - the structure and purpose of the footnotes makes sense in this context.

The main Navidson Record narrative is getting more interesting, finally, but I’m getting really annoyed by Johnny’s novel-length rambling drinking/drugs/sex/fighting/pretty girl stories bullshit notes. So boring to me, and I could not care less about any of that.

Well, that was enlightening and heartbreaking. The coded letter was intense, but what really broke me was the request for luggage, and the hope it represented that could never be realized. How sad. But enlightening regarding the reliability of the JT contributions.

I’m finding this to be a challenge to read. Every time I pick it up, a new question or thought I want to make note of occurs to me. I have a running list in my review space. (At least it’s not scraps of paper or the backs of envelopes, right?) Ha ha ha O_O
