picking this back up and feeling the same as I did during my first attempt: miss rebecca lowman is reading TF out of this! Also the prose is lush but also an example of why I avoid things written by men lol
Like it’s not “breasting boobily” bad, but the way eve ross is being described is sooo aggressively thru The Male Gaze™️ and it makes me feel icky!!

okay miss rebecca is reading tf out of this (as per usual!) but my brain is not really grabbing onto what is being said—I think I’m historical fiction-ed out & I think I need to tandem read this with the book + audio. going to set this down for now but will def be picking it back up!

not to mention the American exceptionalism….it’s def true to what his characters would believe (read: ignorance due to the lack of globalization), but reading stuff like this last sentence makes my stomach turn: “In the 1950s, America had picked up the globe by the heels and shaken the change from its pockets. Europe had become a poor cousin—all crests and no table settings. And the indistinguishable countries of Africa, Asia, and South America had just begun skittering across our schoolroom walls like salamanders in the sun.”
