Nellie is so annoying

Sometimes it really hits me how well gender roles are critiqued in this book. The young women stop seeking freedom because everyone encourages them to be quiet, to behave, to stay inside. They become unhappy, attention-seeking, desperate. Everyone fears cathy will be like Catherine, while treating her with the same carelessness. She was a “happy creature” as a youth but “could not be content.”

“She stopped, and wept outright; upset at the bare notion of relationship with such a clown” the amount of relatable quotes in this book…

“I’ve recovered from my first desire to be killed by him. I’d rather he killed himself!”

I see now why this is compelling. Two horrible insane people whose love is beautiful.
