L‘s old crew find a family+ children dead hung up. They tried to find who had done and realize that people collecting taxes for the King of the North. They kill them and get the lay of what’s happening, which is a lot since the last time they were in civilization. The weakest says that he will go to warn the king about the oncoming army from the mountains as no one else will be there while attacking the south.

It’s not even really close he feels like the other man is sluggish and slow and oafish. That night while everyone is celebrating, West tells him that they have 40 days before they ship out he had received a letter from Artie in the morning saying meet me in the Square at night. He debates this internally because he knows it’s a bad decision, but he’s head over heels for this girl he goes they make out

Jazz wakes up in the morning shaves admires himself, a lot, really a shocking amount. He starts to eat breakfast, but is too nervous to he heads to the arena where he sees the other contestants he is very nervous. They can hear the crowd clamoring it’s insanely loud even behind doors. They walk out to massive applause, then head into a staging room. He is the first fight, and he wallops his opponent.

Glotka climbed the many steps to the top floor of the tower of chains where about band from the north has been staying. He is bewildered by Logen and even more so by Bayaz. He thinks they’re all lying because Bayaz should be way older. He goes as far as to tell them the thought had crossed his mind that B could be an imposter

Logen wanders around the city taking to random people. A carpenter kindof tells him about the contest but it goes over his head. Head was too busy thinking about how something called Stands were meant for seating. He sees jayez running which he finds weird. Doesn’t get the concept of exercise because everyone is so physically busy where he is. Ardee talks to him a bit

Arch Sult doesn’t believe Bayaz is who he claims to be but instead insists on him being a well informed spy. Albeit a brave one. He sends glotka to investigate. G for his part is annoyed that he has forgo his investigation into the bankers. He realizes adult had all the info up front and pointed G into the direction he wanted him. G felt like a pawn but is atleast glad to be on the winning side

J goes on about how scary, and distrustful looking Logen is. We get our first real discription of his appearance although it’s from the pov of a pretty boy noble. He is 6’6”, scarred as all hell, eyes unlevel. Overall a scary dude. J thinks it’s funny that he keeps looking around in awe and is stunned by a water fountain and “pipes”

J has progressed a lot in his training. At this point he can run an hour and barely feel winded. He goes to practice after where he is greeted by a crowd of people. Master V wants him to get used to the crowd which was a good idea. West - who has been distant sense the promotion and warning about ardee - comes at J hard. At first the crowd distracts him him he settles in. J is too fast for W and wins 2-0

Logen, Bayaz and malacus take on the big city!! It’s dirty, smelly, crowded, people are dressed in rags or like peacocks. Yet Logen is the weird one…..
They go to a shop that sells theatrical garb for putting on plays so that people actually believe B is who he says he is. L is stunned by the beauty and filth of the city.
