I feel like I’ve grown so accustomed to all of these characters that I’m too busy enjoying the story then annotating. Which I suppose is a good thing, I’m paying attention to the story and enjoying it.

I feel like I was struggling to get round the book towards the end. Probably just too much reading today. Alas, Albert challenged the count to a duel and after Mercedes talked the count out of it and sparing her son; he crumbled and resigned from winning. However, Albert miraculously changed his decision and spared the count. Now, Albert and Mercedes are fleeing, with no possessions

On the very same night Edmond recieved a visit from Mme Morcerf. She came in, and said “Edmond! You just not kill my son!”. Holy shit. I genuinely teared up reading that. We haven’t heard his name spoken in like 700 pages, and to hear it again felt unreal. That is the length of several books, and all of a sudden, he’s been summed so powerfully by the woman he loves.

Whoah. Albert figured it out. He has the first half of the puzzle solved. He PERFECTLY pieced together what the count has done and how he has played his Parisian friends to act against eachother (page 969). Now he is to confront the count.

Put this book in the goat debate. Rn. The Abbe, after an intense come-to-Jesus moment with Caderousse after he was murdered (by Benedetto, not Ali) reveals himself to Caderousse in his final moments… Edmond. Dantes.

Holy shittt bro get SMOKED. Caderousse tried to rob him, someone informed the count of Caderousse’ plans. The count and Ali waited, and Ali went down, the count transformed to the Abbé and basically told him to stop what he was doing. He also figured out about Benedetto and how he knows the count. Nuts. Anyways, Caderousse got murdered by Ali, out of NOWHERE.

So, Andrea visits his good “friend” Caderousse. He seems to believe that the count is his father when in reality it is his butler, Signor Bertuccio, who I believe is buying and furnishing a house in Normandy presently. Caderousse also has (with the help of Andrea) a plan to steal from the count…

I also LOVE how everything is starting to sour. The count has beautifully set this up in a way to make everything fall in place.. it’s almost like he’s planned it all for years!

However, it can’t have been for Noirtier as he drank half the flipping bowl of it. So he must have some immunity to it that he’s been built up. It was also told that Valentine brought him the lemonade. She may get in trouble, and her marriage with Morrel may begin to fall apart! Eek! (2/3)

WHO is poisoning the Villeforts bruh. WHO??? First they poisoned Madame de Saint Mariane, Valentines grandmother, who claimed to see a ghost in her room and touch her water whilst she slept. A pale ghost. Sooo maybe the count right?? But now Barrois, Noirtiers butler has been poisoned! However, he only drank the lemonade because he was very thirsty, and I believe it was meant for someone else. (1/2)
