Halfway.
“Places were very important to Samuel. The ranch was a relative, and when he left it he plunged a knife into a darling.”
“‘Do you take pride in your hurt?’ Samuel asked. ‘Does it make you seem large and tragic?’
‘I don't know.’"

Part one finished…
As brutal as it is beautiful. I knew I was meant for this novel when it opened describing my part of California and the specific color of the poppy.
“And mixed with these were splashes of California poppies. These too are of a burning color-not orange, not gold, but if pure gold were liquid and could raise a cream, that golden cream might be like the color of the poppies.”
^yes.

Finished part one…
Equally brutal as it is beautiful! I think I knew I would love this book as when it opened my describing my part of California and detailed the specific color of the poppy way more than necessary.
