While Armitage and Riviera were shopping in a gift shop, Case went to an alcove to buy cigarettes. The payphone next to him rang. He picked it up automatically. It was Wintermute calling, and Case was frightened. He hung up right away. As he walked the length of the ranked phones, each rang in turn, but only once, as he passed.

Once Molly shoved Terzi into a Citroen, along with The Finn, Mahmut, and Riviera. The Citroen headed out. Case and Molly rode the Mercedes to the gardens of the Seraglio. They talked about Armitage's background, how Terzi was an asshole, and the capabilities of the AI Wintermute. Once they were back at the Hilton, Armitage told them they were going to Freeside.

Case and Molly were in a hotel room, meeting a young man called Terzibashjian. He was the eye for Riviera. He made some misogynistic comments to Molly on the way to Riviera. All Case, Finn, and Molly told him to shut up. When they were in the bazaar's alley, they met Riviera in his horrendous, fierce form. It was like a horror show.

Molly hired the Moderns to find out who's running Armitage. And it was Wintermute. Case thought AI weren't allowed any autonomy, so it would probably be the parent corporation.
