in a sea of criticism, tj klune is otherwise adept at foreshadowing. i'll give him that. the twist in question hasn't been revealed yet but i have the unyielding curse of pattern recognition i know what's coming

Yeah the narrative voice is def annoying me. Stop telling me things. Let me infer them. They aren't even hard to grasp but the author keeps telling us anyway. Stop telling me things like i'm a dumbass.

Also "[the lights] were soft and yellow, like a brick road" JAIL. WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN. Forced reference fr 😭

ok icl i am not too enthused about this book. approaching it with the same tentative hesitation as i did with rwrb. not too sure about the writing style either but that's a me-specific issue coz it's a way of speaking that i personally don't like. great start 👍

also "we're happiest when we listen to those in charge"? "who needs magic when you have your imagination"?? these DICOMY slogans are insidious af lol
