"Imam Hasan Al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when a thief is robbing a house and he hears the door moves and he goes and he hides, he went from committing theft to committing a minor act of shirk.
How is that?
Because before the door rattled, he was not afraid. When the door rattled, he feared that person instead of Allah (SWT). He assigned something to that person as opposed to Allah (SWT)"

The goal is to get to that point where I am not just no longer committing the evil, but I have busied myself with good. If you do not busy yourself with good, shaytan will busy you with evil. As simple as that. You have to be too busy for shaytan.

I think this is such a powerful thinking!

In surah Az-Zumar, verse 53, Allah (glorified and exalted is He) says,
“Say, ’O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah; indeed, Allah forgives all sins; indeed, it is He who is The Forgiving, The Merciful.’”
