Restarting this because I’m gonna add random facts as I go.
a human brain contains roughly 86 billion nerve cells/neurons, and we use all of them
an estimated 1 in 4 people worldwide will face a neurological or psychiatric condition I wonder if that includes mild cases. At what point does anxiety count, etc? It’s a normal human emotion, but many are labeled as having a disorder. I have my doubts.

The human brain grows an excess of neurons, eliminates the extra cells early in life (synaptic pruning). Only the connections you need are kept. Unused neurons later in life can make neural connections weaken (it’s more complicated) so it’s important to keep up with physical and mental exercise. (Why I enjoy reading a variety of topics and try to bring variation to physical exercise)

message 1: by Lindsey (new) - added it

Lindsey sensory neurons create electrical signals (action potentials) which travel down a neuron. To get to a second neuron (crossing the gap aka synapse), the action potential is transformed into a chemical messenger which can trigger a second action potential etc etc., can also release a chemical messenger that blunts the transmission of a signal to end the message. (I wish the updates didn’t have a limit on the number of characters..dumb)
