The consequences of going into this blind is that I wasn't expecting it to be semi-creepy!
I'm curious if this story revolves around the characters entering these cages over and over. If so, it's gonna get old and I'm not gonna enjoy it as much. Idk what to expect. Idk if that's a good or bad thing. This story doesn't have me as engaged as I thought it would, thus I'm struggling.

I don't think my brain can process this right now as my main read. So I'm making a different shelf called "Slow Reads" where I'll slowly work on it in the upcoming months by like a 7-10 chapters a week or something. It'll take me forever but I'll get there!
Hopefully my mind will be in the mood for this.

What kind of writing do you all prefer? "Show, Don't Tell" or "Tell, Don't Show"
I realized one of the reasons I'm not having fun w/ this novel it's because it's too much of the latter. The author randomly puts SO many facts literally in the middle of a scene lasting over a chapter, just to explain one little thing. It prolongs the story _ makes it so boring to me. Where is the chemistry between the two mains?

Okay okay so a cultivator can clear desolate malevolent energy, but if they fail to do it right, they would be contaminated and corroded?? *cough cough* XW. And WS is like a skeleton, soulless and a bottomless bucket... (≖ᴗ≖ ✿)
Okay, the pot has started to boil. The plot is a-cooking. Finally omg I was hungrier for it than WS' hunger for that dark mist!

Am I reading Charles Dickens who got paid by installment? I don't think we needed 80 plus pages to figure out who this lady is and what's her lingering attachment. I think it described and gave you way too many scenes only to give you very little relevant information to solve it and tie it to the mc, imo. Good lord... But okay. We move on. I still have hope I'll become invested.

Things I'm thinking of as I'm reading this:
-The couple reminds me of You Huo and Qin Jiu from QQGK.
-Ah that's right... Mu Su Li's writing very unique in the sense of "what in the world is happening?" (Personally some scenes like this kinda bore me and drag, but after you get a reveal, it makes sense.)
-OHHHHH! AW! Now I'm gonna cry! ｡°(°¯᷄◠¯᷅°)°｡

I'm %25 into this and I like it , they still enter cages but it doesn't feel that repetitive imo I'm quiet found of the atmosphere but some readers dropped because of the repetitivenes so if you're not interested in the story by %20 you'll most likely drop it

But I just don't want it to be repetitive without knowing what exactly all of these gates are truly going to accomplish to reach that goal.

It's not terrible but I think what I mentioned in the above comment is what's my main issue.
I'm glad it's not repetitive! Do you feel like the gates become relavent? Does the plot actually move?
After the 2nd-3rd(?) act we see new characters also from time to time you see glimpses of the main characters past

the gate shit bored me as well - im not that fond of this genre and also prefer an overarching goal. im not sure if there ended up being something that connected all of those arcs as i dnf-ed around 60% in. i think i could've continued through boredom but, i really did not end up liking the romantic dynamic which resulted in me stopping this.

It definitely could be the writing or the genre. I think it has great potential and I'm not even far into it, I hope I change my mind. I really want to change my mind. I don't want to rate a story based on a small percentage.
I looooooved Copper Coins that is in the same universe because again, it had and overarching goal and it is clear what was needed from the very start.
Still trying to understand what the goal is here. I can tell there's a lot of possible easter eggs.
I hate being in the dark forever, and unreliable characters have to be done right to keep me intrigued.
