andrew goes from losing virginity in the south to going to ny with his family. everyone got to ny. charles left for china. some man pretended to be charles in china and take ownership of land and used money to gamble. he got a heart attack and almost died but came alive after seeing his children. ending is rushed and unsatisfying. idk. 2.75 but rounded down to 2.

the communists had it all wrong. it wasnt the rich who were imprisoned by their possessions. it was the poor.

all characters are really well developed. interesting plot lines and palpable emotions even though all they do is sit in the car. this is a 4 star read. the writing style is crass but sophisticated and dynamic and filled with cliches and it's just good.
