i don't think there was TV yet in 1938? so everyone listened to the races through radio, and i always thought 'how could anyone be riveted by an announcer just describing what was happening without seeing the action oneself', but now i understand. Hillenbrand had me breathless with the play by play of seabiscuit's races. I AM HOOKED.

only 2 chps in but i'm LOVING IT ALREADY i love narrative nonfic like this, Hillenbrand paints such vivid pictures of the places, personalities of various ppl, i'm so excited to read this!
