I’m considering giving up , but I’m kind of curious about how she’s stitched these eight books together. I enjoy linked short stories so I wonder if this is a precursor to them. But it’s long and slow reading because of the language.

Tracey Allen at Carpe Librum Try and hang in there if you can, the sense of accomplishment you’ll have if you finish it will be huge!

PattyMacDotComma That's a fair point, TRacey. If it's regarded as the best novel ever written (by some), I should at least see what all the fuss is about. I have to say, there are truly wonderful passages - just so much other stuff, that it feels repetitious.

I know how you feel Patty. I've persisted with classics I haven't enjoyed purely so I can have an opinion at the end of them. Ana Karenina and Crime & Punishment are two examples. I felt a sense of accomplishment having finished them, and now feel justified in my opinion of also having hated them.
