Okay, if a kid bites you, yes it's going to hurt, but I feel like it shouldn't break the skin to where you need an actual bandage? How strong is this little guy's jaw?

The fact that the RAF was deliberately targeting German civilians with their bombing raids was well known by people of the time. RAF leaders boasted about it on national broadcasts. This book would have you believe it's all a "dirty lie."

The Nazis in this book exist almost solely to be enemies of the British. And occasionally the Norwegians. But that's it. No mention of the Jews.

The emotions are really well-drawn. I will say that. The premise is still insane though... and I'm waiting for the part where we get to the debates over the bombing, because I remember that being UNHINGED

James: we BRITISH don't deliberately bomb civilians and then lie about it, unlike you GERMANS
Me, having watched the interviews with Bomber Harris: oh. interesting. tell me more.
[Like. I get that this is written during the war itself and Constance Savery probably doesn't have access to all the information . . . but the entire point of this chapter is about NOT SWALLOWING PROPAGANDA. So, ironic.]

Dym deserves hugs & chocolate.
I really like the descriptions.
I don't exactly like the kidnapping premise--it feels a little 'off' to me, in terms of realism--but I'm ignoring that because the rest of the story is so good. <3

I feel like Tony the Menace could bite a hand OFF, if he really put his mind to it. :P

I don't know, man, I've met some little terrors in my time, but there's a limit to what human teeth can do... 😆
So I actually asked my sister about this recently after reading something similar in another book. She informed me that teeth are actually strong enough to cut through bone, but she said that it's the muscles and neurons controlling the jaw that keep us from biting hard enough to do that kind of damage and it's potential that if a panic reaction was startled, depending on the area they're biting, it would be possible for a child to grip strongly enough to cut through skin when biting. So do with that information what you will.
Definitely depends! Jaw muscles are secretly insane (and there's a reason why we preschool workers are way more freaked out about biting than hitting!)
As someone who had a really nasty biter in my extended family... if a kid genuinely enjoys hurting people, they can absolutely break through skin!!
I was a biter growing up (to defend myself against my wannabe sumo wrestler twin) and I did some startling damage with my teeth.
fascinating... fascinating but for real, i love how everyone has opinions about the accuracy of the biting subplot and NOT the baby-kidnapping main plot

Listen, no one is surprised about the baby-kidnapping, dear. XD

I AM. It's WEIRD
I've actually read about a few real life instances where children were kidnapped as babies and then were found as young adults or full-grown adults. They felt straight out of a book because they seemed to wildly serendipitous. But they actually happened: and it reminded me a lot of this book.
