The transitions can be kind of frustrating, like suddenly a chapter will start and i’m confused bc we just got no resolution to how the previous ended and how we got to this point. like, I don’t understand how they got away from the demons after they shook Delphine out of a tree. similarly after leaving the old man’s house I’m confused why Thomas is no longer with Delphine

the ever present threat of the concept of rape throughout this book is so off putting, but I suppose that’s the point

also I find myself a bit frustrated by what feels like endless books with rape, or the threat of rape, as a plot device. at least here it “makes (more) sense” i guess considering the time period and setting. but still i tire of it

oh wow, I already liked it when it seemed like an old style tale, with surreal episodic monster-of-the-week type stories, but now they’re getting interconnected and i’m very into it. great writing style too. mid-black-death is such a cool eerie bleak setting too
