This is one of those novels where I was on its wavelength from the very first sentence and it hasn’t lost steam yet. It happens rarely but when it does, I tend to devour novels like this one within days. I’m not only a Tokarczuk fan now; I want to read everything she’s ever written.

I've found the perfect book for my European vacation next week. The only problem is that I might finish it before my flight to Budapest on Sunday. I have to force myself not to plow through this one, because I need to savior it. My first impressions are that this book almost reads like a Polish version of Terra Nosta by Carlos Fuentes: blending historical fiction, religion, and postmodernism, all in one massive work.

Don’t mind me: I’ll be glazing this book throughout my European journey next week.
