also i think this would work better if it was presented as a weird-girl-makes-first-female-friends-mistakes-platonic-feelings-for-romantic, canon event etc, but what do i know

I feel like a normal person would’ve been able to clock this subtext, or at least this as a possibility, as soon as they started talking to this guy. And I think it would be a more interesting thing to say about consent (maybe you don’t, but the person who’s life you stole *did*, so now you have to do as to not be suspicious. or something.)

this is the first time this book has been funny in ages

actually i think this book would be better if julie was a loser because she is fundamentally a bad person (and thus uniquely qualified to pull this off). like a 21st century dorian grey

is this a “good” book? absolutely not. am i enjoying it? very much

why is the doorman inside. actually, i’m about a page and a half into julie chan, lost in new york, and im wondering if liann zhang has ever actually been to new york.
