Anachronistic weirdness? Is that a thing?

Concentrated on this book over the weekend because I’m struggling to like it. Which I hate…because I loved Pillars of the Earth.

Could do I with fewer sex scenes. I’m not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but this is supposed to be a historical fiction and most of the scenes are just not necessary to the story telling. They add no value.
