It took a hell of a while to get through part I. There’s a distinct narrative style, done well but damn is it wordy. The slow pace isn’t a problem (yet) and it’s fine so far. Relieved that it’s not a drag like The Talisman (yet). My theory is that Straub is doing most of the writing here.

True, but usually the magic maguffin has some presence to draw on earlier than this.
I mean I probably liked this just based on how much I hate The Talisman and the fact this wasn't like it.
