I did appreciate the structure and pacing of The Scarlet Citadel, many conventions were avoided or overturned. Unlike many I’m not able for extended stays in the Hyperborian. The same towards Robert Bloch, I started a volume of his stories in late March and manage about one tale per week.

The Phoenix on the Sword was phenomenal, second story was a set piece, not bad but barely a footnote compared to the first. Imagine a wizened King Conan besieged by conspiracy and instead of et tu, Brute he’s offered a darkAleph in eye of an evil mummified baboon. One doesn’t see this everyday.
