"It is every bit as wrong to lay down a preparatory bombardment which reduces the terrain to a lunar landscape."

I wonder what the contemporary conceptualization of lunar landscapes were at this time. Clearly by this quote its not far off from reality, but its not like they had lunar probes taking pictures in the 30s.

"The endurance of the British infantry had been severely tested in the process [Somme], and public opinion at home was shaken".

This entire part of the book is pure copium from a German Officer. Guderian spends this first part pointing out casualties the Allies took vs Germans. Then gives Verdun a paragraph. You guys lost, this is a book about Tanks, just put the the fries in the bag, sir.

"Among other measures Captain Martel, R.E. (of later fame) was given the task of creating a training area at Elveden in Suffolk."

While reading this pre WW2 work on how potentially damaging it is to release simple information about top secret development projects. Because of a book released in Britain, Germany (and others) know the location and details of Britain's Tank project and whose involved.
