This is a very peculiar story and so far not at all romantic. I'm not quite sure I like it, but I'm definitely intrigued and want to know what happens next.

Ivory's heroes and heroines are always pretty idiosyncratic. The hero of this one is a handsome earl with a bad reputation, an interest in fireworks, and a flamboyant fashion sense. He wears waistcoats with up to 10 watches stuffed in multiple little pockets, all the gold chains dangling. The heroine is a butcher's daughter/widowed marchioness by the old Puritan name of Submit. Yes, Submit. :P

Scurrying back to Judith Ivory's gorgeous prose after a few mediocre reads. Why is it so hard to find historical romances that really knock my socks off? I can't just keep reading Laura Kinsale books on a constant loop for the rest of my life. I mean, I can and I will, but it would be nice to have other options, too. ;)
