Good grief, I feel like it's impossible to figure out what is going on in this story

I genuinely have never been so confused from a story so early on. Nothing is really making sense, and I've been introduced to so many characters without the actual plot moving forward.

I think this may be the kind of story that works best as a physical book. I've met so many characters without the plot even starting. But I do like the sci-fi elements I've seen so far
