“It’s a wagon! It’s a tank!” sang Gavin, making up his own song. “It’s a waaaank! A beautiful, wonderful wank!”
I spluttered. “No. No, it is not.”
When I was younger and I heard people talk about the innocence of children, I had a sort of idyllic vision of children in white clothes in a field of flowers… After over nine years of motherhood, I knew this was nonsense.

The most realistic parts of this book are 1) people immediately stake out the grocery stores and threaten any who approach (because assholes, of course) and 2) all three kids wind up in the mom’s bed at night pretty much. ❤️ (Ok, there are a lot of realistic parts. It’s a great book. No Princess Donut, but there is a talking turtle stuffy named Pointy.)

The fact that she immediately selects “Draw Attention” as her first ability so she can protect her three kids… ❤️💔
No talking cats yet, but there is a tiny stuffed talking turtle.

I don’t struggle from anxiety as much as I used to…but one of my persistent triggers before was parenting during an apocalypse, specifically zombies. I couldn’t watch walking dead anymore after I became a parent. This sounds interesting…since I love DCC so much. But also potentially triggering.
