Homosexual males are not “chicks with dicks” (peak) they can and do embody patriarchal masculinity.

Men who were sympathetic to feminism in its heyday but felt uninvited, became involved with the men’s movement. Positively, the men’s movement advocated for discussing and understanding feelings, yet promoted patriarchy by insisting that men must be separate from women for self-actualization (topical!)…

Hooks blindsided me with a quote while at work:

“A sociologist interviewing boys about their passion for the [Hulk] show asked them what they would do if they had the power of The Hulk.

They replied that they would ‘smash their mommies.’”

Be careful that in your resistance to your father’s ways that you don’t become like your grandfather!

Apparently early radical feminist ideas largely villainized the man and wholesale suggested all men intentionally and gladly took advantage of patriarchy,

but later in the 20th century shifting toward seeing patriarchy as hurting everyone developed, hooks says men must be involved in the movement as well.

Adam “Therapist George Edmund smith remembers learning early that men will respond with rage and rejection if they are perceived to be out of control, or making a mistake:

‘I also recall early in life that when I asked my father a question to which he did not know the answer he became angry as if to say look I don’t know the answer to your question, and because of that, I should kick your ass.’ Of course, I realized this almost immediately and had stopped looking to my father for answers. Perhaps if he had taken the time to say to me, ‘Son, I don’t know the answer to that, let’s look it up together and find out.’”

“Wounded men are not often able to say anything positive. They are the grump and groan guys, cloaked in cynicism they stand at an emotional distance from themselves and others.”
